KCP Game Rules
Each team must provide one adult, age 18 or older, to keep score. Only one person per team should be at the score table.
Clock Keeper Instructions
Clock Keeper needs to put 2 minutes on the clock for halftime and start it immediately following the first half. Clock Keeper needs to put at least 5 minutes on the clock for warm-up and start it immediately following the game.
GAMES MAY NOT START MORE THAN 5 MINUTES EARLY (AND ONLY IF BOTH COACHES AGREE)
PLEASE WRITE THE FINAL SCORE CLEARLY ON THE SHEET and make sure team names and game time are included.
*After the game is over, the staff will immediately take both score sheets to the Gym Supervisor to post scores.
NFHS Rules Apply with the Following Exceptions:
Rosters
- Rosters must be submitted prior to the first game.
- If a completed roster is not submitted for each tournament and/or league, it could result in a forfeit.
- The home team is listed first and should wear light-colored jerseys.
Length of Game
- Two 20 Minute Halves with a Running Clock
- For 5th grade and older, stop the clock during the final 4 minutes of the second half unless the point spread is 15 or more
- For 4th grade and younger, stop the clock during the final 2 minutes of the second half unless the point spread is 15 or more
- Halftime: 2 Minutes
- First overtime: 2 minutes, stop the clock
If still tied after the first overtime: Sudden Death
Timeouts
- Two full timeouts per half with no carryover
- One full timeout per overtime period with no carryover
Full Court Pressing
- 5th grade and below may not press when leading by 15 or more points
- For 6th grade and above, we encourage teams not to full-court press when leading by 15 or more points
Defense
- Zone defense is strongly discouraged for 4th grade and younger
Ball Size
- All girls divisions: 28.5″
- Boys divisions 7th grade and below will use a 28.5” basketball
- Boys 8th grade and above: 29.5″
- Ball size is determined by the division being played
- If an 8th-grade boys team plays in a 7th/8th-grade division, a 28.5″ ball will be used
- If a 7th-grade boys team plays in an 8th-grade division, a 29.5″ ball will be used
Conduct
- Inappropriate behavior will NOT be tolerated. We have a ZERO-tolerance policy! No refunds will be issued.
